Questions
Everything people ask us.
If your question is not here, write to us at info@alegacybeyond.com and a real person will answer.
Before you buy
Is there a subscription?
No. You pay once, the way families already pay for a funeral, because a monthly fee did not feel right for this. There is no yearly charge either, and we keep no card on file.
What happens after ten years?
Nothing disappears. The memorial stays online, the emblem keeps working, and everything you have added stays where it is, free to visit and to download. After ten years it settles, and you can no longer add to it. Visitors can still leave written memories, and you can always read them. If you reopen it, you can approve them and they appear on the page. To start adding again, reopen it for another ten years for £30, whenever you like. Always open, at £20 when you order, means it never settles.
Could you ever delete the memorial?
No. We never delete a memorial. Only the family can choose to delete it. It is always free to visit, and there are no adverts.
What happens if A Legacy Beyond closes?
Our terms commit us to giving you at least six months' notice and a way to download everything. You do not have to wait for that: you can download every photo, film and recording at any time.
What if I am not confident with computers?
If you can send a photograph to a family member, you can do this. To begin, all you need is their name. Add photographs and their story when you are ready, a little at a time if you like. If you get stuck, write to info@alegacybeyond.com and a real person replies within one working day.
Can I order for someone else?
Yes. You can order on a family's behalf and invite them by email to help look after the memorial. There is no limit on how many people can help.
Do funeral directors sell it?
No. Some funeral directors recommend us, but they do not stock emblems. Each emblem is unique, so every order is bought online and posted by us.
The emblem
Where can I put the emblem?
Most places need no permission at all. An urn, a bench you own or a shelf at home are yours to decide. A headstone is different. Cemeteries and churchyards set their own rules about what may be attached to a memorial, and some do not allow QR codes. Church of England churchyards usually need a faculty, which is a formal permission from the diocese. Please check with the cemetery office or the parish before attaching anything to a headstone. If the answer is no, the memorial still works: keep the emblem at home and share the page by its link.
Do I need the emblem at all?
No. The memorial works on its own and you can share it by its link. You can begin there and add an emblem later, when the headstone is in place.
Will it survive a British winter?
Yes. It is weatherproof and made to stand up to UK weather. The QR code is etched into anodised aluminium, not printed, so there is no ink to fade.
Do we need a grave for this to work?
No. The emblem can go wherever you already go: on an urn, on a bench or on a shelf at home. The memorial works without an emblem at all.
The memorial
Who can see the memorial?
You choose between two settings. Public means anyone with the link or the emblem can open it. Private keeps it behind a four-digit PIN that you set. You can switch at any time, and switching never needs a new emblem.
Can family add their own memories?
Yes, and it costs them nothing. Anyone visiting can share a memory without an account, with up to four photos and a voice note.
Who sees a memory before it appears?
The family looking after the memorial reads each one first. Nothing appears on the page until they approve it.
What can I add?
Their story, told in chapters with the years in order. Photographs, videos of up to ten minutes each, and voice recordings. And the memories family and friends share, once you have approved them.
Space and media
How much room is there?
Each memorial starts with 5 GB. Photographs and videos are made smaller when you add them, with no difference you can see, so the space goes much further than it would on your phone. If you need more, it is £10 for each extra gigabyte, bought from the memorial's dashboard whenever you like.
Can I download everything?
Yes. You can download every photo, film and recording at any time, from the memorial's settings. It's yours.
Privacy
What do you do with our information?
We keep what we need to run the memorial, post the emblem and reply when you write to us. We never sell it, and there are no adverts. Our privacy page explains it in full. Read our privacy page
After ten years
What does settling mean?
Ten years of adding photographs, moments and memories are included. After that the memorial settles: it stays online, every emblem keeps working, and everything stays free to visit and to download. Always open, £20 when you order, means it never settles. Reopening a settled memorial for ten more years is £30.
